Product Description
This text "populates" the world geographic landscape: it seeks to make geography real to students by emphasizing individual lives, showing how individuals respond to economic, social and political forces. To paint a more vivid and complete picture of lives in a changing world, the book extends the traditional coverage of physical, economics and political geography by also exploring family life and gender roles. The accompanying Student CD-ROM provides a sense of place by providing 500 "National Geographic" regional images from around the world as well as recipes from regional cuisines and a spoken pronunciation guide of place names, regional terms and biographical names. Interactive map exercises, thematic map overlays and a self-quizzing feature enable the student to brush up on place location and sharpen his or her ability to analyze geographic material. There is also an on-line Student Companion which includes such things as language excerpts; animations; chapter objectives; Q "drag & drop" map exercises; and key terms.

4 out of 5 starsInteresting book, 2008-01-22
This geography book is actually very interesting. You can sit down and read this textbook and not find yourself drifing off in space or falling asleep.

Worth the money and is a good resource for any college geography student.

This books can give you some general ideas of World Geography but lack of details. The CD is almost useless.

5 out of 5 starsStudent Review, 2006-02-19
I used this text for and independant studies course in world geography. It is a wonderful book. While all the definitions in the first chapter can be pretty overwhelming, they are essential for the rest of the book. I enjoyed all of the book and would recomend it to anyone.
